Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mother’s Choice?

Mother’s Choice is a local charity serving the many children without families and pregnant teenagers in Hong Kong. We join hands with our community to give hope and change the life stories of vulnerable girls and babies. Our vision is to see every child in a loving family.

Each year, thousands of teenage girls face crisis pregnancy with no support, and thousands of children are in need of a family for a number of reasons including neglect, abuse, abandonment, or family breakdown. We’re here to help the most vulnerable in our community by providing high-quality services for children, youth and families, and by actively tackling the root causes of the issues we face. What is the Mother’s Choice Alumni Community?

The Mother’s Choice Alumni Community is a place where you can keep up with Mother’s Choice for all things alumni. It’s a space to honour our history and heritage, keep up to date with the present situation and needs of children, youth, and families in Hong Kong, and equip and empower our alumni to be catalysts in their community in the future.

Practically, the resources in our community include:

  • Family Reunion (2023), a virtual and in-person event, live streamed across the world to connect our Alumni with the past, present, and future of Mother’s Choice. Look out for more details nearer the time!

No matter where you live, you remain an important part of the Mother’s Choice family. We look forward to staying connected with you, and helping you connect with one another.

Do I need to live in Hong Kong to join the Mother’s Choice Alumni Community?

We all share a deep connection to Hong Kong, but we have Mother’s Choice Alumni all over the world! Part of our Alumni Project is to map out where we have Mother’s Choice Alumni communities so that we can connect you together. Whether you are in Hong Kong, or somewhere else, we can’t wait to connect with you.

I am an adoptee/ adoptive family from Mother’s Love in Nanning, China, can I join the Mother’s Choice Alumni Community?

Yes! In 1992, Mother’s Choice founded Mother’s Love as well a number of other projects in China. Kit Ying Chan, our first local Hong Kong volunteer who became our first official member of staff, led Mother’s Love and knew many adoptees as babies. She has written a book, Hidden Treasures, about her experiences in China (www.hiddentreasures.family).

I am an adoptee/ adoptive family from Hong Kong, but I wasn’t connected with Mother’s Choice – can I still join the Mother’s Choice Alumni Community?

We recognise that some adoptees and adoptive families do not have other connections with Hong Kong or the place where you/ your children lived. We welcome you to join our Alumni Community to connect with Mother’s Choice and Hong Kong, and get to know those with similar experiences.

Can we connect with other Mother’s Choice Alumni Community members?

As we share stories and host Family Reunion events (virtual and in-person), we hope to provide opportunities for our Alumni Community to connect with one another. However, we will never share your details and data without permission.

How can I find out more about the vision and future goals of Mother’s Choice?

We’ll be sharing our plans and our current programmes in our blog. If you are interested in the current situation of vulnerable children, youth, and families in Hong Kong, and how we are working to break the generational cycle of teen crisis pregnancy and children in care, we invite you to research our website www.motherschoice.org/en/. You can find many resources on our  “Learn” page, as well as information on Adoption and Foster Care.

Can I organise a Mother’s Choice Family Reunion in my community?

Yes! We are preparing to host another Mother’s Choice (virtual) Family Reunion in November 2023. We hope to have a number of gatherings all across the world where Mother’s Choice Alumni can join together to watch the Family Reunion. If you would like to host a Reunion, please contact us at alumni@motherschoice.org.

What are the current needs of Mother’s Choice?
